Over the course of late 2022-2023, I wrote, directed, animation directed, and animated on my student film DENSITY at Griffith University.

My idea for DENSITY started in 2023, when news of a very inhumane octopus farm being proposed coincided with a class I was taking where I was learning about octopus’ sensory systems and intelligence. Initially, the story was a lot more serious in tone, but over time it has developed into something which I hope holds onto a message at its core of empathy towards and justice for living creatures, but is wrapped up in a story strengthened by a fun and silly buildup and characters who we can relate to and feel for.

Learning to collaborate in my first experience directing has been fantastic. I had a vision for the story, themes, and characters of the film, but the art direction and production was something I was much less sure of. Working together to solidify the project with our Producer Isabelle, Art Director Sullivan, and the whole crew is what made DENSITY what it is. I’m looking forward to learning more about storytelling, and hope this experience will carry me forward into more opportunities.
